What is flavoursofthevalley.com.au now? An independent editorial guide to food and wine trails in the Yarra, Barossa, Hunter, Clare and Tamar valleys. It is not a booking office, cellar door, festival organiser or liquor retailer.
Which valley did the old site cover? Kangaroo Valley, New South Wales. Cooking school and shared-table events. Heritage paths are kept and rewritten.
Does this site sell wine or tickets? No.

Getting there
Which Australian wine valley is closest to Melbourne? Yarra Valley. Visit Melbourne: about an hour from the CBD.
Which Australian wine valley is closest to Sydney? Hunter Valley. Visit NSW: just over two hours.
How far is the Barossa from Adelaide? South Australian Tourism: 50–60 minutes north-east.
How far is Clare from Adelaide? South Australian Tourism: about two hours.
How far is Tamar from Launceston? Discover Tasmania: Legana 15 minutes / 12 km; Pipers Brook about 45 minutes / 50 km.
Geography
What is each valley known for? Yarra — cool-climate pinot, chardonnay, farm gates. Barossa — shiraz, heritage towns, long lunches. Hunter — semillon and shiraz in a historic NSW GI. Clare — riesling and a 33 km rail trail. Tamar — northern Tasmania’s largest wine district, pinot and sparkling. Details and sources sit on each hub.
Is Tamar Valley a Wine Australia GI? Tasmania is the GI. Tamar is the tourism wine district.
Is Kangaroo Valley a wine region? It sits near the Southern Highlands GI. It was not one of the five trail hubs, and the historic site was a cooking school.
Practical tasting
Can you visit cellar doors without booking? Sometimes. Many are appointment-only. Confirm locally.
Are children allowed at cellar doors? Policies vary. Do not assume. Never leave minors in a parked car.
What is the legal drinking age? 18.
Do I need a car? Usually. Clare’s Riesling Trail is the cycling exception for part of that valley.
Should I book restaurants? Yes on weekends.
